Young Author Award - The six Finalists!

The Young Author Award Committee has selected the following six finalists:

for paper: “H2 purity control of high-pressure alkaline electrolyzers”

  • Francesco Destro (University of Padova, Italy)

for paper: “Continuous integrated filtration, washing and drying of aspirin: digital design of a novel intensified unit”

  • Francis Gagnon (Université Laval, Canada)

for paper: “Simple model and predictive control of a pharmaceutical batch fluidized bed dryer”

  • Sungho Shin (University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA) - WINNER!

for paper: “Graph-based modeling and decomposition of energy infrastructures”

  • Pengyu Song (Zhejiang University, China)

for paper: “Sparse adjacency forecasting and its application to efficient root cause diagnosis of process faults”

  • Lai Wei (University of New South Wales, Australia)

for paper: “Control contraction metric synthesis for discrete-time nonlinear systems”


The winner will be announced during the ADCHEM2021 Closing Ceremony on Wednesday 16th June 2021 at 17.15 (CEST

Call for Nominations

The IFAC Young Author Award will awarded for the best paper of which the first and presenting author had a PhD-student status at the time of paper submission.


No self-nominations are allowed. Nominations can be made by supervisors, reviewers or senior co-authors. The deadline for nominating candidates for the Award in on 16th May 2021. Nominations are proposed by filling in this form and sending it as a pdf file via email to:, clearly stating the name of the PhD student, the title and ID of ADCHEM2021 paper, the role of the proposer with respect to the nominee, and the motivation for the nomination.


An award selection Committee, appointed by the IPC chairs, will select a number of finalists, on the basis of the nomination letters, the review reports, and the papers. Finalists will be informed before the event. The Committee will select the winner out of the finalists, after having attended at the presentation of the paper.


The award will be presented during the ADCHEM2021 closing event on Wednesday 16th June 2021.

The winner as well as all finalists will be provided with an IFAC certificate.


A 300 Euros prize will be granted to the award winner.
